Visited the Wilyabrup Cliffs area which can be seen in the distance. The Cape to Cape Trail goes past them. Didn't get up close but will do that next weekend as we have found a new route. Certainly a beautiful patch of coastal scrub and awesome coastline. The cliffs are a favourite spot for rock climbers.

The cliffs are about 15km north of Loaring Place B&B.

The chooks of Loaring Place B&B

This is a small clip showing off our chooks. In Australia, chickens and hens are called chooks. Our chooks are mostly ISA Browns and 4 white chooks plus Rodney the Rooster. They give us 8-10 eggs a day that we use for our breakfasts. They get fed vege layer crumbles, wheat and of course scraps. The young chickens are Araucana chickens from Peru that lay blue eggs. We are looking after them for our daughter who will pick them up when they come across over Easter.

Video of our Alfresco Area

This is a short video of our alfresco area where in summer we set up the tables for guests to have their breakfast. It is also a lovely area in the afternoon to enjoy a glass of wine and take in the peace and tranquility of the forest.

Sunset at the Mouth of the Margaret River

Bella enjoying the sunset at the mouth of the Margaret River. The river only flows into the ocean after heavy rain. Otherwise, the waves build up a sand bar that blocks the river. The water in the river banks up and you can canoe up the river about 3 km.

There was a strong surf but as the sun was about to set the beach had been abandoned.

Triple Sheeting

Showing off our new sheeting arrangement called triple sheeting. Instead of a bedspread, we now use another sheet over the blanket. Pam also bought some really fluffy blankets which she cut in half and hemmed because the standard throws are not long enough to be tucked under the mattress. The beds look very fresh and modern with this method and the throw adds a lovely bit of trim at the end. You will also notice that the valance now matches the bedhead.

Mouth of the Margaret River

Took Bella to the mouth of the Margaret River. She loves fetching sticks. I then went in and had a swim with her. The water is slightly brackish but beautiful and clear. Around the corner people were catching Bream.

Mum and Joeys enjoying a feed of our lawn.

Mother kangaroo and her two joeys came into our back lawn to have a feed in the afternoon. Joey on the right is probably a year old. In the mother's pouch is a very young joey. It would occasionally pop its head out and have a little nibble, then disappear back into the pouch with just it's legs sticking out. Bella was inside with us and kept a close eye on them. They stayed for about 20 minutes before hopping back into the bush.

Some parts of the lawn got scorched a little while back during some very hot days, but it will come back.

Bed of the Margaret River

In winter there is a raging torrent over these rocks but now there is just a tiny trickle. Bella enjoyed cooling off in one of the rock pools as she had been chasing a rabbit.

Discovered live mussels in several of the rock pools. The pools will be totally dry soon so they are very clever to survive that and the strong currents in winter.

Slipper Orchid

There are  two magnificent slipper orchids  at the end of our drive.
